y E L L E Rocks the Catwalk... Myer Style!

This month Myer have re-released their Women's BIB (Big Is Beautiful) label, celebrating women with major curves. With designer, Leona Edmiston contributing to Myer's plus size fashion collection, the time was ripe to bring those bootylicious fashions to the catwalk, and recruit 10 everyday women to model them on the runway at the Mercedes Benz Fashion Festival. Enter the Women's Weekly/ Myer Women's BIB Modelling Competition.

The Prize:
  • A $5000 BIB wardrobe

  • 12 months representation from Bella Model Management

  • The opportunity to model in Myer's BIB fashion show at MBFF

As a loud and proud girl of bigger proportions, I immediately sent off an entry to the judges, with not much expectation of hearing back. It was only understandable that I would squeal and jump around with excitement when I received the phone call telling me that I was one of the 35 finalists for the competition!

On Tuesday 16th August, the 35 finalists rocked up to Myer, Sydney City, to take part in a catwalk show. The girls were absolutely stunning and ranging in size, age, nationality and style. One of the girls had taken a day off her job working the mines in Perth to join the fun!

We were to walk down the runway, pose, and walk back, whilst under the watchful eyes of the judging panel. Plus size model, Robyn Lawley was one of those judges, which caused immense levels of excitement amongst the models.

While the cameras flashed from the photographers pit, backstage there were dramas. One girl was sweating and short of breath, another broke out in a heat rash, and one poor girl tripped over her stilettos on the catwalk.

Ten wonderful models were selected to walk in MBFF (I, unfortunately, was not one of them) as well as one gorgeous winner; Raylee-Jo Sinclair.
